Supporting our kids, our school and our community

Our Parent Teacher Association is for everyone! Padres Unidos is a space to connect as Rigler families to support our kids, our school and our community. If you are a parent or caregiver of a Rigler student, you are already a member! No dues or forms required to participate.

We are a volunteer-run group that works to:

  • Plan events and cultural activities

  • Support our teachers, programs and school

  • Celebrate and lift up our community

  • Advocate for more equitable school funding

Padres Unidos is a 501(c)(3) volunteer-run group dedicated to providing social and academic support for Rigler Elementary students, families and teachers.

Get involved

Participation looks different for everyone. We’ve put together a list of different ways you can help. Here are our top three ways to help:

  1. Join a meeting or help out at an event

    Check out our events calendar below. All events and meetings are bilingual in Spanish and English. Childcare is provided for in-person evening meetings.

  2. Support your Rigler classroom

    Help in the classroom or sign up to help on field trips. Start your PPS volunteer application today.

  3. Help us raise money

    From recycling to Fred Meyer Rewards to donations, learn about the different ways you can help us generate income to support our school, teachers and community.

Meetings

Our meetings are a great way to connect. We meet monthly from September to June and take December off. Meetings are held on weekday evenings in-person with childcare, weekday mornings when kids are in school, or later in the evening on Zoom.

Rigler’s events are an important part of our community. Padres Unidos works with staff to plan, fund and work school events like Back to School, Dia de los Muertos, Dia del Niño and Field Day.

Rigler Holds Fall Literacy Fair
Rigler Holds Fall Literacy Fair

Rigler welcomed over 50 families representing almost 150 people at our Fall Literacy Fair on Thursday October 19th. Participants enjoyed tamales from made by one of our Rigler parents, played bingo , read stories, and made books to celebrate our enduring support for bilingual reading/writing.

Thanks to Jill Nicola, Diana McKay, and Bella Bishop from our Rigler staff who organized this event! And Special Thanks to all the volunteers from Padres Unidos for their support organizing and staffing this event! Our appreciation to Rachel Kimbrow from Linda Letra Books for bringing bilingual books for sale. Our progress as a school is directly linked to our effort to build strong literacy.

At our October 5th, 2023 General Meeting of Padres Unidos de Rigler/PTA, we approved this bilingual Statement of Solidarity with PAT by a unanimous vote of all attendees. We call on PPS to commit to providing the resources needed to support every student and to retain quality teachers.
